Is He or Isn’t he?

That is the question, isn’t it? Is Jesus the Son of God… God? Or isn’t he? C. S. Lewis posed the question this way, “Liar, lunatic or Lord?” My question is short and to the point. If Jesus isn’t God, then we’ve been duped. We are fools. We were lied to, unwitting numbskulls who should be mocked and ridiculed not unlike what is taking place around the world at this moment in time as the world moves away from God.

More seriously,

if Jesus isn’t God, he has committed blasphemy proclaiming himself, the Son of God, God and pulling people away from their faith and toward a false religion. And if that is the case, then He should have been put to death, which He was and It would have been justified under the law.

To be sure, there were many false prophets during Jesus’ time. But Jesus was different. Not only did he proclaim Himself The Son of God, He showed Himself as such. Raising the dead (John 11:1-44), healing the sick (John 5: 1-15), proclaiming the Kingdom (Luke 4: 31-44), casting out demons (Luke 8:26-39). These are but a few of the many of His signs and wonders.

A quick internet search of Roman, Jewish and Greek historians such as Tacitus, Josephus and Thallus among others will reveal what they wrote about Jesus and His “mighty deeds, wonders and signs” as well as what they wrote of His followers. The very fact that they write of Jesus anchors Him into time and space.

All the evidence we need to see to know Jesus is Lord, we can find in the Bible. Unless you are like I was and could not see the Truth of the Gospel. I was blind to the Truth, something was blocking me until my frightening yet intensely loving encounter with the Holy Spirit. To this day, I don’t know why I was not able to see what is now so plain for me to see.

I remember my “oh no” moment some time after my initial encounter with the Holy Spirit. Standing in the front pew of church gazing at the tabernacle still engulfed with that overpowering love of the Holy Spirit in my heart when it hit me. Jesus is God! That means if I want to follow Him, then I need to think like Jesus. Live according to how He is asking us to live. For years my thinking was not inline with most of Church teaching. Now that I know Jesus is God, I need to aline my thinking to that of Christ. Live the way He is asking me to live. A challenging thought, but one I have been striving for since that moment.

From that moment to present day I have come to see very clearly that the world is lying to us. Enticing us to live and think contrary to Christ and His teaching. Take a moment and compare how Jesus is asking us to live with how the world demands us to live. Now is the time to wipe the scales from our eyes, step back, take a look, see the Truth, begin to live the Truth and say… He is.

Our eternities depend on it.
